The Augusta University men’s basketball team received the No. 16 ranking in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll this week, moving up seven spots from their previous ranking of 23rd. Second-half comeback lifts AU over Lander in season opener

The Augusta University men’s basketball team successfully completed a comeback in the second half to defeat Lander University 87-72 on Wednesday night, Dec. 2, at Christenberry Fieldhouse in the season-opener for both teams. AU men’s basketball adds hometown transfer in Sellers

This past academic year for Augusta University athletics saw several Jaguar teams continue their success and some teams struggle. There were championships in men’s cross-country and in (women’s) volleyball. However, 2019-20 will long be remembered as the year that spring sports and the NCAA Division II men’s basketball tournament were cancelled due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. After last week’s first-round loss in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament to Georgia College, Augusta University head coach Dip Metress wasn’t sure if the NCAA selection committee would still put the Jaguars in the Division II men’s basketball tournament. On Sunday, Mar. 8, at 10:30 p.m. the NCAA Division II basketball tournament selection show aired, and the AU men’s team was given the fourth seed in the Southeast Regional. Winning streak continues as Jaguars get commanding win over USC-Aiken, 91-69

On Jan. 29, the Augusta University men’s basketball team defeated Peach Belt rival USC-Aiken on the road, 79-74, which would be the start to a winning streak for the Jaguars. On Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Christenberry Fieldhouse, AU obtained their ninth consecutive win after defeating Aiken again, this time by a score of 91-69.
