The Bell Ringer has officially received two winning designs in the “Art-the-Newsstand” contest.
The announcement of the “Art-the-Newsstand” contest began in early March. The main goals of the contest were to receive creative art designs and originally to paint all four newsstand boxes placed on Augusta University’s campuses.
After careful consideration of time and effort in the contest, along with a few submissions, two student winners and their art designs were chosen.
Senior art major, Baillie Conway, and sophomore graphic design major, Morgan Hayes, created two art designs to “bring life to our campus.” The winners will each receive $25 gift cards and the opportunity to paint one newsstand box of their choice.
Conway wanted his art design to communicate the branding of the newspaper clearly to the public. In his design, the portrait of a newsstand box appears contemporary with a repetitive triangular pattern that connects to the top shape of the bell tower logo and creates “a sense of motion” to attract viewers.
Hayes’ design for one of the newsstand boxes brings in a pop of color to attract viewers. Her design is a digital acrylic paint design that she created in 2016, which is titled “Modern Abstract.”
Both Conway and Hayes will have the opportunity to paint the newsstand boxes on campus. On May 2, there will be a showcase from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Allgood Hall lawn and patio.
